The Program in Biomedical Science and Engineering: Microbial Biology and Pathogenesis (PBSE-METX) track offers a Doctoral degree.

  • Upload a single (1) statement of purpose that contains the following required sections:
    • Research Interest Statement
      • What has made you interested in attending graduate school in your chosen area, and specifically in the UCSC Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology Department?
      • What are your academic and career goals?
      • Limit to 1 page.
    • Statement of Previous Research
      • Please describe your previous research experience. Include what projects you worked on, the overall goals, and your specific role. What did you enjoy, and what was challenging?
      • It is more important that you address the points above for one project in depth, rather than to provide a comprehensive list of all of your research experiences, which can be listed on your CV/résumé.
      • Limit to 2 pages.
  • Upload a single personal history statement which describes how your educational and life experiences and/or challenges have influenced your career goals and equipped you for graduate school success.
  • Limit to 1 page.
